Napa Valley Syrah 2003 Eagle & Rose Syrah has a beautiful and darkly concentrated burgundy-purple color with a deep heart, deep color right out to the edges, and super tightly-spaced legs that creep slowly down the glass. Eagle and Rose has three vineyard blocks of Napa Syrah. For this Syrah wine they were crushed together into one tank for fermentation. The fermentation lasted ten days, with no extended maceration. The wine was evenly split between new French oak barrels and one-year old French oak barrels. The result is a Syrah that is exciting, yet subtle, with hints of blueberries and lots of spice. Bright fruit and oak flavors are balanced evenly with vanilla and acidity. Eagle & Rose Syrah has a long, smooth flavorful finish. Give this Syrah a little to open up, and it is a wonderful compliment to any meal. Drink by 2011.
His grandmother's words, "Anything worth doing is worth doing well," have inspired Eagle & Rose Estate founder Norman Alumbaugh for a lifetime. Norman has been pursuing his passion for crafting exceptional wines. His goals are lofty and his commitment to the very best enduring wines. Eagle & Rose Estate is in Pope Valley, tucked in the Napa Valley's legendary eastern hills. When Alumbaugh first discovered the picturesque valley in 1981, he knew it suited his dreams perfectly. The winery was built, extensive caves dug and the first vines were planted in 1995. Admiring the eagles which soared above their wild rose-covered valley, Alumbaugh's wife, Evonne, suggested the name Eagle & Rose Estate.
RATINGS: This is what the Wine Spies said about the Eagle & Rose Syrah:
"Its a phenomenal wine that is surprisingly great given its low price. This wine from a bigger boutique producer could easily cost $35 or more. Why is the price so low? We can’t tell you why this particular wine is priced so low but often we find that smaller producers keep prices low as a way to attract buyers. Whatever the reason for the low price of today’s wine, we say its a stupendous value and great wine!" |
