Great Good Average Poor

Sonoma Pinot Noir D'Argenzio Klopp Russian River Valley Pinot 2004 is produced from prime Pinot Noir grapes from the Thorn Ridge Ranch's 2004 vintage. D'Argenzio Sonoma Pinot Noir has lush enticing aromas of strawberry, floral cherry and a touch of earthiness. This Russian River Valley Pinot is unique so expect abundant layers to sweep the palate with bright acidity balancing the ripe, intense fruit. A tapestry of anise, dried herbs, cloves and tobacco completes the long, graceful finish. It's a Sonoma Pinot Noir that shows excellent balance and complexity. This earthy Pinot 2004 was grown in the Russian River Valley Appellation on the Thorn Ridge Ranch. One of the cooler regions for Pinot Noir, these rolling hills near Sebastopol receive lingering fog from the nearby Sonoma Coast. The limited direct sunlight and dry-farming technique restrict the vineyard yield to only 1.8 tons per acre. Soils are the Goldridge fine sandy loam, the region's most coveted soil for Pinot Noir due to its ability to develop intensely flavored fruit. D'Argenzio Pinot 2004 is unfiltered and unfined. Only 285 cases were produced.

"285 cases, $48. Hi-tone Bing cherries star in the nose with a hint of violets. The flavors are a cherries jubilee with enticing cola and spice notes. There are some darker stone fruits peeking out here as well. The finish is dry and satisfying. I picked this out as a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir before the unveiling. A Gold Medal winner at the 2006 Sonoma County Harvest Fair. Reviewed January 22, 2007"
