| Pouilly Fuisse Vielles Vignes 2004 from Domaine Vessigaud has a clear, bright yellow with green reflections color. It is richly textured with well-defined flavors of lemon custard, honeysuckle and apricot. It is all wrapped with a touch of smooth vanilla. This is a Pouilly Fuisse with spicy accents that add dimension, and a vibrant and long finish. It's from the Vielles Vignes region of France and is very harmonious and creamy, typical of its terroir, and makes it an ideal wine for fish, lobster, stone crabs and shrimp dishes. It's also very good by itself and with dishes with white sauces. Drink now through 2016.
Vessigaud is a family-owned domaine situated between the communes of Fuissé and Pouilly. The VESSIGAUDS have been winemakers since the 18th century in Pouilly. Their estate is 11 acres (3 acres in Mâcon-Fuissé and 7 acres in Pouilly-Fuissé and 1 acre in St Anour). Pierre Vessigaud is a winegrower who is convinced that there cannot be a great wine without a good terroir and beautiful grapes. His aim is to protect the soil and work his vineyard in the most natural way possible. He takes a special care of the soil which is ploughed, composted and weeded methodically each year. The quality of his wine is not only found in its taste but also in the methods used to produce it. Pierre Vessigaud follows the traditional method handed down by previous generations – those who have contributed to the renown of the Pouilly Fuisse appellation. He produces wines of an exceptional quality induced by the privileged situation of its vineyard located in the hamlet of Pouilly, itself in the village of Fuissé. Wines from his domaine are often rewarded in the “Concours Agricole de Paris,” the “Concours des Grands Vins de France,” and the Guide Hachette des Vins de France. The vinifi cation is conducted in foudre vats or barrels, in order to obtain a long fermentation process with natural yeasts. It produces full and elegant wines, with an outstanding balance between alcohol and acidity (low pH degree).
