| Chateau 2000 french wine. Chateau Mazeris Canon Fronsac 2000 is a truly beautiful French wine from Bordeaux at an incredibly affordable price. On the nose, the wine has aromas that are free-flowing with lots of blackcurrant, a little bit of bramble, some leather and wood. On the palate, it's intense and fruity as the merlot really comes through. Again the blackcurrant and blackberry is there, with a little of baked plum and toffee on the very back of the finish. Its mouthfeel is smooth and luxuriant with silky tannins that at eight years old, are completely approachable. Chateau Mazeris 2000 has a lovely big structure, its full bodied and the finish is long. This Chateau 2000 is a beautiful wine for people who dip into Saint Emilion, as it is a completely sensible alternative that offers what is great value. It's hard to find this quality at such an affordable price. BUY A CASE OF 12 AND GET AN ADDITIONAL DISCOUNT OF 10%. SHIPPED IN ORIGINAL WOOD CRATE.
Chateau Mazeris is situated in the community of Saint Michel de Fronsac, in the appellation Canon Fronsac, the property is 23 hectares large with 17 hectares planted with vines. This family estate has been run by successive generations of the same family since 1769.
The Slopes are 7 hectares and the geology is in 3 parts:
Chalky at the top
Clay-chalk in the middle
Sandy-silty at the bottom
Only Merlot is grown on the slopes, half is facing east and the other half west.
The average age of the vines in the slope section is 15 years
The Plain is 10 hectares. The geology shows a shallow layer of chalk with successive banks of emerging rocks. The soil is mainly clayey-chalk. There are 2 hectares of Cabernet Franc with the rest Merlot in the plain. There are blocks of vines of all ages, from 20 years to oldest which is 70 years. The vines are grassed in at 50% with lawn-type grass. Only the very young vines follow the traditional style.
The Chateau pruning is Double Guyot with debudding 1 on 2.
De-leafing & green harvesting have been done for over 7 years, depending upon the conditions of each year. Chateau Mazeris uses Vats of concrete and the grapes go through traditional harvesting, with sorting table, de-stemming & total crushing with stainless steel material. The heat control is by mobile equipment and the long vatting period is performed with a system of micro-bullage.
30% of the wine is put in barrels in January, after the winter racking. The wine is bottled around June/July in heavy traditional bottles.
RATING: "Produced from very old vines, it has an uncanny resemblance to the great Pomerol, Lafleur, at about one-seventh the price. Dense in color with an intense blackcurrant, plummy bouquet, great concentration, full body, and plenty of tannins, this is an amazing wine for drinking over the next 10-15 years. Join me in line for it!" Robert Parker (The Wine Advocate)
